The AirScoop solves a problem every cruiser at anchor knows. The cabin is hot, the breeze is steady outside, and a wide-open hatch lets weather in along with the air (and doesn't even bring in that much air). The AirScoop clips into an open vertical hatch, catching the prevailing breeze and steering it down into the cabin. The acrylic shell lets light through so you don't lose light in your cabin. The angled mouth keeps spray and most rain out. It can be removed in under a minute.

Used together, they cut cabin heat enough that many cruisers run their air conditioning less, run it on lower settings, or skip it entirely in moderate conditions and overnight. The combo is most effective in the trade-wind belts (Caribbean, Pacific, Mediterranean shoulders) where a steady breeze is the norm at anchor. In peak summer at a windless dock, the AC still has work to do, but with the cooling system in place the load is lower and the runtime is shorter.
The AirScoop is a rigid Lexan scoop with a wide mouth and a narrow tail. The mouth faces into the wind. It easily locks into place with a simple elastic clip that fits any vertical hatch opening. Pressure builds at the mouth, accelerates through the scoop, and ventilates the cabin while preventing driving rain from entering the cabin.
Installation takes under a minute. Hang the lanyard from above the hatch with a slip knot (similar to a knot used to attach fenders). Lower it down to hatch level and tie off to the lifeline. Go below, open the hatch all the way, reach through the hatch, grab the T-handle, pull through the hatch stretching the elastic, rotate 90 degrees, and let it rest on the open hatch frame. To take it down, reverse.

The ATN AirScoop is designed to fit over hatches 18 inches long by 9 inches high or less. It works on the great majority of standard production catamaran and monohull vertical hatches, including Dufour, Beneteau, Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, and many others.
Modern catamarans are being built with fewer deck hatches and more side hatches. This leads to less ventilation, and the AirScoop was designed to help alleviate this problem.
