About the Catana 40
Lock Crowther designed the Catana 40 as one of the brand's founding models, built in France with light displacement and lively handling that was unusual among production catamarans of the 1980s. Two variants exist, the 40c built from 1984 to 1988 and the narrower-beam 40s built from 1989 to 1992, totaling only 16 boats, so surviving hulls are genuinely scarce. That rarity, combined with the model's role in establishing Catana's performance-cruiser reputation, makes it a worthwhile boat to keep sailing.
