This 381 came from Catana's yard in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, built between 1996 and 2003 to a Christophe Barreau design with lightweight construction and retractable daggerboards. Its edge in upwind speed over the bridgedeck cats typical of that era, plus a genuinely seaworthy bluewater character, is why shorthanded couples still take these boats on long passages today. Its early daggerboard design remains a strong argument for refitting rather than replacing one of these hulls.
